The methods of aggression or destruction include any procedure that causes a permanent change in a sample, such as extracting parts of the specimen for microscopy studies or DNA analysis, in which causes partial breakage. The written requests needs to be addressed to the technician responsible for the collection. In the case of graduate students, the student¿s academic advisor must make the application. The staff of the collection performs technical and administrative management of the application: prepares and processes the document "Request for samples of copies to be submitted to methods of aggression or destruction", which must be signed by the applicant, and calls to technical consultant scientist for evaluation.
The technician responsible for the collection and scientific consultant will assess the request based on the purpose of research and scientific interest, methods of sampling that wants to use, the protocol chosen will be the least intrusive method of evidence of competition researcher with the suggested protocol, and what samples have been requested and why are essential for the study. In all cases, the researcher must be able to provide a reasonable assurance that the study results will be published in a peer-reviewed academic journal security. The type specimens in any case are available for destructive sampling.
If the proposal is approved, the applicant will be informed of the decision and imposed any restrictions, including the return to the collection of remains that are not destroyed. For particularly valuable or sensitive specimens, the collection may require the applicant a written agreement on conditions for sampling. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions established for sampling may be grounds for refusing future requests.
The collection does not provide services sampling, which must be made by the applicant. This will take place during the visit to the collection, which must be scheduled through the usual procedures. It may require that staff is present to some or all of the sampling. Sampling can be approved for specimens coming out on loan, requiring in any case the prior express approval of the museum so that it can be done and compliance with all conditions and restrictions. In these cases, the application of destructive sampling will also be understood as loan application.
IMPORTANT: All applications whose result results in the improvement of the scientific quality of the collection, or those that by their nature cannot enter into competition with the private sector, are excepted from this benefit.
