Células madre e inmunidad

With a long scientific career in immunology studying lymphocyte biology and its implications in cell migration and autoimmunity, we now move to the emerging field of stem cell biology, focusing on genomic instability, their role in cancer and immunoregulation. Stem cell research today is driven mainly by regenerative medicine, in an attempt to identify conditions in which these cells can be used to replace malfunctioning organs in the body. Our aim here, however, is to understand the biology of stem cells and to analyze the alterations in somatic cells generated in the context of cancer, as well as their ability to act as immunosuppressors.
