Service description
The IBISBA CSIC-CIB node offers a comprehensive consulting and design service. Advice is offered to improve the development of biotenological processes. Clients can propose a problem to the node about a biotechnological process development and the node's team undertakes to study the problem and offer a report with possible R & D & I actions to solve it, which can later be agreed with the service following CSIC hiring models.
The cost of the service is established based on the hours used for consulting and design.
Among the possible developments that can be studied are the following:
- Construction of strains as biofactories. Generate microorganisms on demand for the production of compounds of industrial interest through genetic modification technologies. Comprehensive design of the producer organism based on the knowledge of its metabolism, supported by metabolic models, and generally after a prior consultation with the IBISBA-CNB node. The compounds produced can be of different types (low molecular weight metabolites, polymers (PHAs, carbohydrates, etc.), enzymes, etc.). The microbial chassis that will act as biofactories can be developed on demand or selected from chassis that have already been contrasted (bacteria or fungi). Genetic modification tools and technologies are provided, with possible selection using ALE (Adaptive Laboratory Evolution) techniques.
- Test of producing microorganisms. Test the fermentation conditions with the producing microorganism at laboratory scale. Production, extraction and purification of the compound of industrial interest. Determination of optimized culture media and a standardized operating procedure for the production by fermentation of the compound of interest in flasks or in small volume bioreactors (1-5 L). An analytical method will be determined for the quantification of the compound of interest based on different techniques (HPLC-MS, GC-MS, NMR, etc.), including the complete characterization of proteins. A method will be determined for the extraction and purification of the compound of interest that can later be scaled up at an industrial level.
- Development of biotransformation processes with biocatalysts. Development of processes for the production of compounds of interest based on biotransformation processes. These processes will be based on the use of enzymes previously isolated (immobilized or free) or with resting cells, generally after prior consultation. It offers the possibility of developing biocatalysts on demand using metabolic engineering techniques (resting cells) and protein engineering (isolated catalysts) using the above consulting, design and test services. Combined bioinformatics, crystallography, and / or biophysics services are offered to complement and assist protein engineering techniques in catalyst design. Production test on a laboratory scale in flasks, or in small volume bioreactors (1-5 L). Analytical method for the quantification of the compound of interest based on different techniques (HPLC-MS, GC-MS, NMR).
