From the Lab to the Market
To ensure that the research results generated within the CSIC become innovations that improve people's lives, we work to maximise their impact. We strive to bring these results to light by identifying new technologies and solutions with commercial potential, assessing the most appropriate form of protection for each case, and promoting them to industry.
We facilitate collaboration between researchers and companies while fostering knowledge-based entrepreneurship.
Protecting Research Results
To identify the most appropriate strategy for managing intellectual property, we provide the expertise and experience needed to help our researchers protect new technologies and innovative solutions. We evaluate the results generated by CSIC research groups and prepare applications tailored to the specific characteristics of each innovation, ensuring protection through the most suitable intellectual property rights. These range from the most common form of protection—patents—to less widely known mechanisms such as trade secrets, as well as plant variety rights, utility models and software registration, among others.
We also advise researchers on the design of Proof of Concept (PoC) projects aimed at increasing the technology readiness of the protected results.
Entrepreneurship at CSIC
We work closely with CSIC scientific entrepreneurs and other actors within the innovation ecosystem to bring disruptive research results to the market. Our tailored support includes identifying and assessing business opportunities, developing business plans, and securing funding so that researchers can establish new technology-based companies (TBCs), helping to strengthen an innovation-driven industrial sector.
We also prepare and negotiate the agreements between the parties involved, including shareholders' agreements for the incorporation of the technology-based company.
Commercialising Technologies
transfer to the market and maximise their societal impact. Initial engagement with companies takes place through participation in national and international technology fairs and events, as well as through direct contact with businesses.
Once one or more interested companies have been identified, we provide researchers with expert support in preparing the necessary agreements, negotiating them with the company, and managing them throughout their implementation.
