Interdisciplinary Thematic Platforms (PTIs)
Alliances in scientific collaboration for a social mission and solutions for tomorrow
CSIC has launched the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform (PTI) Global Health/Salud Global, which mobilizes more than 200 research groups of different disciplines and specialties, from biotechnology, virology and immunology, and nanotechnology to demography and artificial intelligence, to address, in collaboration with other institutions, public administration and companies, the challenges posed by the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus epidemic searching for effective responses in the short, medium and especially long-term solutions.
The Interdisciplinary Thematic Platforms (PTIs) are a finalist instrument of research and innovation, to tackle multidisciplinary challenges of high scientific, economic and social impact.
They are integrated by research groups from different CSIC centers and open to the participation of companies, administrations, other institutions and social agents.

Our PTIs
Since the initiative started in 2018, more than 35 PTIs have been launched, mobilizing more than 600 research groups belonging to 90 CSIC centers and institutes. Also involving more than 80 companies, institutions and social partners.
They cover all the areas proposed by the missions of the European Union, as an instrument to solve the major global challenges: Adaptation to climate change, cancer, clean oceans, coasts and lakes, smart and sustainable cities, nutrition, food and sustainable soil.
The PTIs are aligned with the United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
