Stress response and synthetic biology of photosynthetic microorganisms

The main objective of our group is the improvement of the productivity of photosynthetic microorganisms with applications in biotechnology and aquaculture. We focus our research on several model organisms under different stress conditions, including the study of cyanobacteria, green algae and diatoms. Our scientific activity is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13 and 14: “Climate Action” and “Life Below Water”. The research activity of the group is also part of the CSIC global area: LIFE, and given the relationship of our lines with climate change and aquaculture, at the intersection LIFE-SOCIETY. The group is located in the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF), Joint Center of the CSIC and the University of Seville (US). The group currently has 5 staff members, from both the US and the CSIC.
