Translational Research in Breast and Gynecological Cancer (Ovarian and Endometrial Cancer)

The main research interest of the group is to provide deeper knowledge of the novel resistance, tumor invasion and metastasis mechanisms in solid tumors as well as in the identification of new targeted therapies against biomarkers previously characterized by our group. The team headed by Dr. Gema Moreno-Bueno has a clear translational orientation and led to the characterization of new prognostic/ predictive markers in breast and gynecological tumors as well as in gastric carcinomas and carcinosarcomas. Our approaches have allowed to decode new resistance mechanisms in HER2 tumors mediated by Gasdermin B over-expression and advance in the deciphering of novel targeted (nano)therapies which has shown effectiveness in vitro and in vivo models. Furthermore, we have also decoded the role of EMT processes in tumor metastasis, and identified several key EMT factors (EMT-TFs), such as Snail1/2 and E47, and several regulatory mechanisms, including LOXL2 and LOXL3, among others.
