Transcriptional control of cancer and regulation of cell division

Our group is developing research projects dealing with four subjects: a)Functions of the transcription factors MYC, MXD and CTCF in cancer and cell differentiation. We are studying this involvement using hematopoietic differentiation (myeloerythroid cell line) or neuronal models, as well as their implication in leukemia and lymphoma. We are also interested in the mechanisms by which MYC is controlling the cell cycle progression, focusing in its functional interaction with CDK inhibitors such as p27. b)Identification of molecular pathways involved in tumoral progression, metastasis and resistance to treatments. To this aim we perform the genomic characterization using ultrasequencing technologies in tumoral samples from human patients or tumors generated in animal models. c) Study of the mechanism and regulation of cell division, which is conserved throughout evolution, exploiting the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system.
