Synthetic and therapeutic chemistry of natural products


The research group has worked during 14 years on natural products synthesis with biomedical application. The main objective of the group is the preparation by chemical synthesis of bioactive compounds based on natural products and study their biomedical application. The group has initiated collaborations with Spanish groups and maintains collaborations with foreign groups in different fields such as new molecules for the treatment of cancer, compounds with antifungal, antiviral and antiparasitic activities as well as modulators of GABAA receptors. The investigations involve the design and synthesis of natural molecules and small libraries as well as their biological study preferentially in in vitro models. Some synthetic processes are carried out from starting materials obtained from biomass, in example, conifers' resins.
