Structural Biology of Protein-Nucleic Acid Complexes and Molecular Machines

Our research is focused on the field of structural biology and particularly in the analysis of proteins and nucleic acids and theirs complexes using crystallography and other structural techniques such as small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy. The group has a wide experience in the field and is a pioneer in the determination of the tridimensional structure of macromolecules in Spain. The group is also ascribed to the Institute fro Research ib Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and has been granted the category of consolidated research group by the Government of Catalonia. The PI is an elected EMBO member. Highlights of our research are the discovery of a number of unique DNA structures as 4-way and 3-way junctions and A-tracts, the determination of the structure of protein involved in bacterial conjugation and their complexes with DNA, several transcription factor-DNA complexes and DNA-drug complexes.
