NMR and Molecular recognition

The NMR and molecular recognition (NMR) group began at the CIB in 2003 with the incorporation of Drs Jesús Jiménez Barbero and Fco. Javier Cañada to the CIB. In November 2014, Dr. Jiménez Barbero moved as Scientific Director to CICbioGune in Bilbao, leaving Dr. Cañada at the head of the group and maintaining close collaboration between both groups through participation in coordinated projects. The general objective is to study the molecular recognition of ligands by receptors in systems of biopharmaceutical and biotechnological interest, with emphasis on the interactions between carbohydrates and proteins involved in processes related to the immune system, infections, cancer and other pathologies. On the other hand, the group develops strategies based on NMR, complemented by molecular modeling, for its application to the study and characterization of the structure and dynamics of the molecules and their complexes involved in molecular recognition processes.
