Music and society


This Group studies links between music and its social environment, placing Hispanic repertory in international contexts, and exploring musicological research in the fields of Digital Humanities, global histories of music, and cultural history. Particular attention is devoted to: migrations of musicians and circulation of repertories; urban musical landscape; institutional models; music connections with culture, politics, ideologies, and conflicts; musical alterity and identity; music and women; musical relationships between Spain and the rest of Europe, Latin America, and the Philippines; music heritage and historiography; critical editing of musical sources, and historical performance practice. The Group fosters scientific, international exchanges and interdisciplinary collaboration with areas such as: history of ideas and art; general, political, global, and economic history; literature, sociology, anthropology, ethnology, and cultural practices.
