MARINE GEOSCIENCES OF IEO - GEMAR

The group studies active geological processes in the marine environment and their interrelationship with biodiversity. It is made up of experts in different fields of marine geology and marine biology with solid experience in: Acquiring marine geological and biological data, including the infralittoral domain and the use of direct observation equipment; Process of high-resolution geophysical and sedimentological data (Sedilab), bottom images and analyze of benthic and demersal communities; Study the seabed, evaluating its state of conservation and the variability of biological, geological and oceanographic processes that affect ecosystems. We have a high capacity to obtain geological and biological knowledge of the seabed in different physiographic environments, evaluate its evolution, pay attention to marine geological risks and global change, and provide scientific for policy advice. We are committed to outreach to better understand the marine environment.
