Functional Genomics and Evolution

Our group takes inspiration from the field of Evo-Devo. We approach basic evolutionary questions taking into account the embryological (developmental) data. In addition our group goes one step forward because we have included functional genomics with a wide comparative perspective. Our group uses a great variety of model and non-model organisms (see below). As a summary the main questions under investigation in our group are: origin of multicellularity and regulatory complexity using different protists, taxa closely related to animals, (Capsaspora owczarzaki, Creolimax fragrantissima, Corallochytrium); Evolution of insect metamorphosis and integration of endocrine regulation and signaling pathways in different insect models (Drosophila melanogaster, Tribolium castaneum and Bombyx mori, Blattella germanica and Thermobia domestica), and understanding the control of insect oogenesis and reproduction by the cross-talk between the different endocrine and nutritional signals in insects.
