Applied ecology

We are a group of scientists that use ecological studies to advance knowledge required for the sustainable management of natural resources. We work with several study systems, but have a particular interest in the ecology and behavior of particular species (e.g. the Cantabrian brown bear (Ursus arctos) and the white-winged snowfinch (Montifringilla nivalis nivalis) and systems (e.g. mountain areas and the Artic) to understand the ecological effects of global change at different levels of organization, from the individuals to the populations and communities. Our research approach is directly aligned with several of the global objectives of CSIC. Our research is highly collaborative and we have a strong international profile, with group members holding honorary or adjunct positions with foreign universities. We also form cross-disciplinary collaborations and engage with commercial companies. Finally, much of our work is integrated with environmental management agencies.
