Dielectric Properties of Polymers.
The broadband dielectric spectroscopy BDS allows the study of the complex dielectric constant as a function of frequency and temperature, between 0.1 and 109 Hz and -150 ºC to 150 C depending on the required configuration.
Dielectric properties describe how a material interacts with an electric field, including its ability to store, dissipate, and transmit electrical energy. These properties are crucial for polymers used in electrical and electronic applications.
Dielectric Constant (Permittivity): Measures the material's ability to store electrical energy in an electric field. Higher values indicate greater energy storage capacity.
Dielectric Loss: Represents energy dissipation of energy during polarization. Low loss is desirable for insulating materials.
Dielectric Strength: The maximum electric field the material can withstand without breakdown. Essential for high-voltage applications.
Electrical Conductivity: Polymers typically have low conductivity, making them excellent insulators. However, electrical conductivity studies are very relevant in the context of polymer nanocomposites
Polarization: Involves alignment of molecular dipoles with the applied field, affecting permittivity and frequency-dependent behavior.
