Molecular engineering of enzymes

Molecular engineering of enzymes

The work of our laboratory focuses on the study of the protein structure-function relationship of a wide variety of enzymes of industrial interest. We try to obtain enzymes with improved properties combining experimental approaches of rational design and directed evolution.

Physics of low-mass stars, exoplanets and associated instrumentation

The group develops the line of research that studies the physics of very low-mass stars and their exoplanets. In the last years, the community has focused on these objects because of the great interest they present for the discovery of habitable exo-Earths. Therefore, it is very needed to deepen in the knowledge of these stellar systems in all possible aspects, from the general statistics to the physics of their formation, evolution and the internal structure of their stars.

Stellar Variability Group

Stellar Variability Group

The Group's research focuses mainly on the study of stellar structures, through asteroseismology, exoplanets, statistics, star clusters, stellar atmospheres, etc. In particular, the Group is involved in theoretical and observational research, as well as instrumental and technological evelopment both for ground-based telescopes and for scientific payloads on board space missions. For this we have developed specific instrumentation for the OSN, and we have participated in the design and exploitation of the space missions CoRoT and Kepler and completed, TESS and BRITE.

Selective Oxidation Catalysts and Processes (Selective Oxidation Group, SELOXI)

Since almost 30 years, the Group is devoted to the preparation and characterization of catalysts, studies of kinetics and mechanisms of selective oxidation catalytic reactions and their applications, combustion and reforming, such as: oxidative activation of light alkanes with different types of mixed, nanostructured and mesoporous (with redox properties) oxides; catalytic combustion using perovskites; selective oxidation by unconventional oxidants (CO2, H2+O2); technological research of novel selective oxidation reactions for industry; and reforming of renewable raw materials.

Advanced uses of Ecomaterials from the agricultural industry

Advanced uses of Ecomaterials from the agricultural industry

Agricultural residues are being used as Renewable Raw Materiales (RRM) for use in a wide variety of projects. Given their origen, these materials are economically very competitve with the conventionally used synthetic materials and also help to close a circle where the residues produced from one industry can be used in the same or another as a RRM, thus reducing the amount of waste and helping towards a sustainable economy.

Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Group

The Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate group (AC2) is a newly created research group within CSIC¿s Institute of Physical Chemistry Rocasolano (IQFR). The group initiated its research activities in Augoust 2009 in Toledo as the former Laboratory for Atmospheric and Climate Science, since December 2012 AC2 is based at IQFR in Madrid. AC2 research efforts are directed at studying the role of atmospheric composition and chemistry in the climate system.

Euro-Atlantic and Mediterranean Studies Group

Euro-Atlantic and Mediterranean Studies Group

This group studies the multiple dimensions of relations between the two sides of the Atlantic and within the Mediterranean area. Its members have extensive experience in research on transfers and exchanges between the United States and Europe, the interactions of European nations in the Mediterranean environment, and the emergence of processes in the different countries that have given rise to processes of influence and hybridization at various levels.
