Physics of low-mass stars, exoplanets and associated instrumentation

The group develops the line of research that studies the physics of very low-mass stars and their exoplanets. In the last years, the community has focused on these objects because of the great interest they present for the discovery of habitable exo-Earths. Therefore, it is very needed to deepen in the knowledge of these stellar systems in all possible aspects, from the general statistics to the physics of their formation, evolution and the internal structure of their stars. The group leads the international CARMENES consortium, that has built and scientifically exploits the instrument of homologous name for Calar Alto Observatory, instrument that has been specifically designed to study this type of star. The group is young but has already been funded during the past few years and includes personnel with experience in theory, observations, instrumentation and management. It is in an excelent position to become leader in its line of research.
