Multifunctional Nanostructured Materials

Multifunctional Nanostructured Materials

The research of this group focuses on: * Synthesis of nanopowders by using hydrothermal synthesis techniques (conventional and through microwaves), coprecipitation and sol-gel, including their morphological, textural and structural identification. * Consolidation of nanopowders into dense nanostructured materials and characterization of the physical properties (mechanical, optical, electrical...) of such materials. * Precise characterization of the materials' structure using advanced X-ray diffraction techniques

Geochemical and Geodynamic Evolution of the Lithosphere

Geochemical and Geodynamic Evolution of the Lithosphere

The Geodynamics, Tectonics and Associated Hazards Research Group focuses on several key areas of geoscience, addressing crucial aspects related to the Earth's dynamics and associated natural hazards.

Physics of climate and climate change

Physics of climate and climate change

The mission of the group is to improve the physical understanding of the climate system, its evolution, impacts and the mechanisms responsible for climate variability and change at different temporal and spatial scales, with the vision of advancing the multiple dimensions of climate change and contributing to current societal challenges. The group's activity is summarised in two lines of research based on experimentation and modelling with the aim of providing an integrated approach to the functioning of the climate system.

Sedimentary Dynamics, Paleodiversity and Climate Change

Sedimentary Dynamics, Paleodiversity and Climate Change

The main objective of the research group is the study of the sedimentary record, the analysis of climate change and palaeodiversity on different spatio-temporal scales. It also addresses the characterisation of environmental changes and mineral formation related to changing geochemical systems. It also includes research on global change associated with the transformation of the earth's surface by anthropogenic action and the transfer of solutions to mitigate its effects.

PETROLOGY APPLIED TO HERITAGE CONSERVATION

PETROLOGY APPLIED TO HERITAGE CONSERVATION

The research carried out within the framework of this line focuses on the study of the processes involved in the formation of minerals, on the phenomena that take place during the alteration of minerals and stone materials, and on the development of strategies that can be used to protect and repair these materials. These studies require the use of different analysis and characterisation techniques (mineralogical, geochemical, petrological and petrophysical), which provide information at different scales, from the nanoscopic to the macroscopic.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

Global change is a combination of rapid human-induced environmental changes that occur at the global scale and impact on human societies and ecological systems. Understanding and predicting the impacts of the different components of global change such as climate or land use change and the interactions between them on ecological communities is currently one of the major challenges to science.
