Organic Matter in Soils and Sediments (MOSS)

Organic Matter in Soils and Sediments (MOSS)

MOSS group represents an international reference laboratory in Organic Geochemistry and the first group in Spain in studying Humus Chemistry. The group have contributed decisively to the advance of knowledge in the molecular characterization of humic substances present in soils, water and sediments, as well as in fossil resources (peat, coals, kerogens, etc.) and residues with use in agriculture (composts, fertilizer humates, biochar, etc.). The group maintains an applied multidisciplinar R+D+I strategy, frequent and stable collaborations with national and international research groups.

Micro/Nanometric Circuits and Systems

MINCAS (Micro/Nanometric Circuits and Systems) is a research group formed by scientists of the Institute of Microelectronics of Seville, IMSE-CNM (CSIC), and professors of the Department of Electronics and Electromagnetism of the University of Seville, Spain. The main research activities developed by the group deal with the following research lines: - Sigma-Delta Data Converters - Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits for Space Applications - Modeling, Design and Synthesis Techniques of Analog, Mixed-Signal, RF and Heterogeneous Circuits and Systems - Security and Reliability in CMOS and Emerging

Main specialization

Marine Geosciences

Marine Geosciences

The Geomarine Sciences group realizes multidisciplinary studies on continental margins and marine basins, analyzing processes that interplay in the dynamics of the Earth System and in its relationship with Global Change. It integrates research on Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Biogeochemistry in marine environments and includes offshore-onshore correlations. Research topics on basic science aim the study of relationships between the deep processes which affect the lithosphere and the external processes which make conditional the morphology, environment and climate on the Earth surface.

Petrology, geochemistry and geochronology (PGG)

Petrology, geochemistry and geochronology (PGG)

The research group brings together researchers dedicated to the study of the processes of formation and evolution of the crust and upper mantle and oceanic continental, through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates the field petrological, geochemical, geochronological, metallogenetic studies.

Main specialization

Mineral processes at low temperature

Mineral processes at low temperature

The research group studies the processes affecting lithosphere, from surface conditions to low-grade metamorphism, in particular the behavior of phyllosilicates, phosphates, carbonates and metallic ores. Using crystallographic, mineralogical, (bio)-geochemical, and metallogenetic approaches to rocks and sediments, we apply field, laboratory and computational techniques, to analyse the composition, stability, structure, formation, mechanisms and reaction dynamics, morphology, self-organization and properties of minerals and related natural systems.

Main specialization

Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies (LEC)

Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies (LEC)

The Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies is dedicated to the study of nucleation and growth of crystals from dissolution. The laboratory uses the knowledge generated by these fundamental studies in the design and optimization of applied processes for obtaining crystals as well as for understanding the processes of crystallization, crystalline aggregation and pattern formation in natural and technological environments. The research developed in the laboratory combines fundamental and applied science with a strong dissemination and didactic component.

Metrics and Innovation in Science and Technology (MIST)

The adoption of the so-called Open Science increases and diversifies both the actors generating research activity and third parties that may be the object of impact studies (scientific, social, economic, environmental, political) of such activity. The description, analysis, and understanding of an increasingly complex system require an interdisciplinary approach that combines the experience of metric studies and the methodological knowledge of the qualitative approach.

Solid-Solid Phase Transformation Group (MATERALIA)

Currently, the MATERALIA Group maintains a leadership position at the Spanish level and an important international visibility in the field of phase transformations in steels. Its main objective is to understand the relationship among the steel processing, its structure and its mechanical properties.
