Biothecnology of fruit trees

Biothecnology of fruit trees

Fruit trees breeding by using genetic engineering tecniques and physiological and biochemical studies of the antioxidative metabolism of fruit trees, as well as their response to environmental stress. We also study role of reactive oxygen species in seed germination and bud dormancy.

Fruit Breeding

Fruit Breeding

The Fruit Breeding Group of CEBAS is one of the oldest groups in CEBAS. Its main activity is breeding of stone fruit (Prunus), mainly apricot, almond and plum. Many of the varieties developed by our group are widely grown in our country and abroad under license of the CSIC. Simultaneously we develop other complementary lines with its own independence on these species, such as: Reproductive Biology. Resistance to viruses. The Fruit Breeding Group is one of the oldest groups of the CEBAS.

Main specialization

Abiotic Stress, Production and Quality

Abiotic Stress, Production and Quality

Study of the key processes involved in teh tolerance of plants to abiotic stress, as well as processes responsible of the fruit quality

Main specialization

Plant Pathology

Plant Pathology

Study of the biology of plant diseases caused by viruses and their control. Viruses are, after fungi, the main pathogens of plants. Therefore, the control of diseases caused by viruses has significant strategic importance. On the other hand, viruses are or can provide tools of great interest to study basic aspects of the plants physiology. Finally, viruses can be used in biotechnology for various purposes, including the expression of recombinant peptides in biofactory plants.

Enzymology and Biorremediation of soils and organic wastes

Enzymology and Biorremediation of soils and organic wastes

It is assumed that SOIL is the base for food production its protection being consequently required. However, soils are degraded due to adverse environmental conditions, population pressure and / or policies not always appropriate. Land degradation results in a loss of organic matter and thus their fertility and productivity.

Main specialization

Soil and water conservation

Soil and water conservation

The research group focuses on the generation of basic and applied knowledge on the functioning of ecological, hydrological and geomorphological processes involved in desertification, land degradation and restoring of semiarid ecosystems, in order to contribute to sustainable land management. (The research group focuses on subjects of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, related to Earth Sciences and Biology).

Main specialization

Soil-plant system sustainability

Soil-plant system sustainability

The Group focuses on the multidisciplinary research on the soil-plant system, developing technologies of conservation, recovery of soils and for the recycling of organic waste in the soil-plant system.

Main specialization

Irrigation

Irrigation

Sustainable Water Management in Mediterranean Agroecosystems Lines of investigation: Soil-plant- environment water relations Regulated deficit irrigation strategies Efficient irrigation management using sensors Use of non-conventional water for irrigation Eco-physiology of plants under environmental stress Cultivation techniques in nursery

Main specialization

Quality, Safety and Bioactivity of Plant Foods

Quality, Safety and Bioactivity of Plant Foods

The research group includes scientists who cover fundamental and applied reasearch on quality, safety and bioactivity of plant-derived food products. The group has a multidisciplinary approach with a strong background in: i) the analysis of phenolic constituents and their metabolites as well as other phytochemicals related to quality by targeted and un-targeted metabolomics, ii) the phytochemical bioavailability, functional foods, gut microbiota, and food and health.

Main specialization

Archaeology and architecture of the city

Archaeology and architecture of the city

The Research Group "Laboratory of Archaeology and Architecture of the City" (LAAC), which integrates 3 researchers and a hired doctor, is an international reference in the fields of Architectural Photogrammetry (External services n. 826242), Archaeology of the Architecture, in Architecture of the Arab Umayyad, the Maghreb and al-Andalus, as well as in the fields of Urban Planning in the medieval Islamic West and Information technology applied to Cultural Heritage; as well as Late Antiquity and High Medieval Architecture of Western Europe.
