NOVALINDUS (Innovación para la Industria de Alimentos) es una planta piloto especializada para el desarrollo de procesos novedosos a escala piloto para la fabricación de ingredientes de alimentos funcionales. Se trata de una plataforma de servicios de I + D dirigida a los institutos públicos de investigación y empresas, cuya filosofía principal es avanzar en una investigación útil en el área de los alimentos, con el objetivo de obtener resultados transferibles a la sociedad, sin olvidar el papel fundamental de la empresa. Establecida con una visión innovadora, NOVALINDUS pretende combinar las sinergias entre la investigación pública, las empresas y la sociedad. Financiado en gran parte por el Programa INNOCAMPUS esta iniciativa es una ambiciosa apuesta tecnológica por el CEI UAM + CSIC en favor de los grupos de investigación y empresas, y el desarrollo de nuevos procesos e ingredientes.

This device offers great versatility, as it allows the extraction of solid samples by means of an extraction cell (316 stainless steel) with a capacity of 2 L, using supercritical CO2 as well as liquid solvents under subcritical conditions and mixtures of both. 316 stainless steel) with a capacity of 2 L, using supercritical CO2 as well as liquid solvents under subcritical conditions and mixtures of both, ranging from liquid to supercritical through expanded liquids (GXL gas expanded liquids). For cascade decompression, the system includes two separation cells, with a capacity of 0.5 L each. The equipment contains a liquid sample pump, a CO2 pump and a pump for incorporating cosolvents into the supercritical CO2. The extraction cell. The extraction cell and separators have independent temperature and pressure control. The plant contains a CO2 recirculation system, through condensation and storage of the recirculated CO2. The operating limits of the system are 950 bar and 150 ºC.

Benefit description

Lab-scale high pressure system Based on a 300mL stirred high pressure equipped with pumps for the supply of compressed fluids and liquid solutions, respectively. The plant could also optionally be equipped with several filters, manometers, thermocouples and back pressure regulators. The maximum operative pressure is 23MPa and the maximum operative temperature is 200ºC. It is equipped with a mass flow meter, and a data acquisition system and it has been designed for micro- and nanostructuring molecular and soft materials. Services: -Preparation of soft molecular materials with controlled structure at supramolecular, micro- and nanoscopic level, using one-step methodologies based on green compressed fluids (i.e. supercritical CO2) -Micro- and nanoparticulate single compounds with high supramolecular homogeneity (i.e. pure polymorphic phases, materials with single polymer folding, etc..) -Particulate polymeric matrix uniformly loaded with active compounds (therapeutics, cosmetic ingredients, catalyst, pigments and dyes, etc..) -Dispersed systems (suspensions, liposomes, emulsions, vesicles,) with narrow particle size distribution and high morphological homogeneity. -Porous materials, either crystalline or amorphous, with defined porosity and porous size.

Benefit description

The ExtrateX supercritical fluid extraction system can handle samples between 50 and 500 mL at up to 1000 bar pressure and temperatures up to 150°C. The use of supercritical CO2 is advantageous due to its low critical temperature and pressure, non-toxicity, availability, and low cost. It is a "green" solvent found in the atmosphere, food, and beverages, and its extracts do not require a minimum content limit, making it safe to use. The system also allows the use of a liquid co-solvent (e.g., ethanol).
