Service description

The Animal Health Research Center (CISA) belongs to the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) of CSIC. It is a scientific facility recognized as Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) with level 3 and 3+ (NCB3 and NCB3+) laboratories and animal facilities. These facilities allow the different CISA research groups, and also external groups and collaborating companies, to undertake studies in conditions of high Biological Safety with pathogens of great relevance in Animal Health (foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever, influenza...) as well as SARS-CoV-2. The CISA Cytometry Service is in a NCB3 laboratory and is equipped with one analyzer cytometer FACSCelesta SORP with 4 lasers (violet 405nm, blue 488nm, yellow-green 560nm and red 640nm) and 18 parameters. In addition, it has a FACSAria III sorter with 2 lasers (blue 488nm and red 633nm) and 9 parameters. Flow cytometry is a technique that provides multiparameter data related to the physical and chemical characteristics of cells or particles in suspension. Our Flow Cytometry Service provides equipment and professional assistance to perform a wide range of flow cytometry studies as well as the physical separation of subpopulations with different fluorescence characteristics for their subsequent individualized study using the cell sorter (FACSAria III) which allows to measure 7 fluorescences and separate cells or particles in 4 ways simultaneously.
