BEHAVIOURAL AND EVOLUTIONARY ECOLOGY

BEHAVIOURAL AND EVOLUTIONARY ECOLOGY

Our main aim is to investigate ecological processes modulating organism’s adaptive evolution. We focus on phenotypic traits related to behaviour and ecological interactions, being interested in exploring proximate mechanisms and ultimate functions, integrating levels of organization from genes to ecosystems. The study of species interactions and their geographical variation are central aspects of the group’s research lines. We work in the field and in the lab, as well as “in silico”, using as models a wide range of organisms and systems.

Desertification and Geoecology

Desertification and Geoecology

Desertification and land degradation as a particular case of Global Change in drylands: geoecological processes (biogeochemical cycles, soils, atmosphere, vegetation, water and erosion) in ecosystems and their interaction with socio-economic factors, as well as diagnostics and restoration measures of desertified and degraded areas.

Functional Ecology and Global Change

Plant-plant interactions, plant-soil interactions, animal-animal interactions, animal, plant and microbial communities dynamics, organisms responses to global change, adaptation, nutrient cycles.

Biodiversity and Plant Evolution

Biodiversity and Plant Evolution

This group develops a synthesis discipline and uses data from different fields of biology: anatomical, karyological, cytogenetic, geographic, molecular, morphological, ecological niche, palynological and chemical. All of them are treated together to obtain a global vision of the plant species. Our main interest is in working on biodiversity, systematics and evolution of different taxa complexes, especially from the Compositae family.
Main specialization

Quark-Gluon structure of matter

Quark-Gluon structure of matter

Study of the hadronic structure from quark models, effective theories, sum rules and AdS/CFT duality. Spectra and properties of mesons, barions, ecotics and glueballs. Outside these main lines of research we are carrying out studies of the properties of monopoles and are participating in its detection within the MoEDAL collaboration. Our global area is Matter.
Main specialization

Flavor and Origin of Matter

Flavor and Origin of Matter

Our research activities focus on the study of elementary particle interactions and their implications in particle physics and cosmology. The main goal is to achieve a deeper understanding of the origin of mass and the structure of flavour of the elementary particles, which might have fundamental implications for cosmology, as regards the nature of dark matter and dark energy.

Experimental High Energy Physics at Colliders

Experimental High Energy Physics at Colliders

The group of Experimental High Energy Physics at Colliders has as main scientific motivation the study of the fundamental interactions in particle physics. Its main chracteristic is the us of accelerators and high performant detectors that allow to reproduce the conditions and productions of the reactions under study. The group cooperates activily and is a pillar member in most of the front-end experiments of the field and in the proposals for future experiments.

With more than 30 years of existence, AHEP is a world-leading group in Particle Physics Phenomenology, currently funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and Generalitat Valenciana. We also participate in EU-funded actions and in Spanish research networks like Multidark and RENATA. The training capacity of our team is well recognized, with 15 PhD theses completed in the last 10 years.
