Sustainable Molecular Systems

The sustainable molecular systems groups focuses its research in materials capable of capturing sunlight and converting it into useful energy. It does so by preparing new molecules that absorb light in the visible region. These materials undergo either undergo charge separation or isomerise. In the former case, the materials are incorporated as thin films into devices such as organic solar cells. In the latter case, the light is stored in metastable states or is transferred into molecular motion. Are expertise is in organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry and photochemistry, amongst other things including structural characterisation. We also have a special interest in chirality.
