Neurovascu-Lab

Recent evidence suggests that cerebrovascular diseases and neurodegeneration are closely interconnected. However, the mechanisms by which vascular dysfunction in the brain leads to neuronal damage, and how neurodegeneration may in turn impact vascular health, remain poorly understood. This critical gap is the focus of our research. We follow a translational “bench to bedside” approach, combining basic research in the lab with clinical studies: In the lab, we use experimental animal models to investigate key processes such as blood–brain barrier disruption, neuroinflammation, and oxidative stress brain modifications. These mechanisms are central to the onset and progression of brain injury. We employ techniques like high-field MRI and microscopy to explore these alterations in detail. In our clinical research, we work with real patient samples; specifically, blood clots (thrombi) retrieved from individuals who have suffered a stroke (cerebrovascular accident).
