Harmful Algae and Plankton Ecology (VGOHAB)

The research group 'Harmful Microalgae and Plankton Ecology' (VGOHAB; https://vgohab.com/en/) is located at the Oceanographic Center of Vigo (COV) and is included in the Department of 'Oceanography and Global Change' of the Spanish National Institute of Oceanography (CNIEO-CSIC). The lines of research focus on the study of harmful algal blooms (HAB) and plankton ecology and the processes and dynamics that characterize them, at the level of organisms and planktonic communities. This study is carried out through a multidisciplinary approach (physics, biogeochemistry and organisms of the plankton community), combining different analytical methodologies (e.g. microscopy, flow cytometry, toxinology, omics) applied to natural observations, laboratory experimentation (e.g. collection of harmful microalgae) and modelling. VGOHAB is a national and international reference group in the study of harmful algal blooms (HABs) and plankton ecology.
