Group of Recycling and Valorisation of Waste Materials

The research activity of the group is developed in the following areas of knowledge: 1) Mathematical modeling and optimization of biological processes: growths (bacteria, yeasts, algae, roosters, etc.), metabolic productions (bacteriocins, enzymes, etc.), complex responses to bioeffectors (hydrocarbons, heavy metals, bacteriocins, dispersants, antioxidants, bioactive peptides, toxins, etc.). 2) Microbial and enzyme productions in both, submerged liquid and solid-state culture from flask to pilot plant. 3) Fermentation technology based on agrifood wastes as culture media for several bioproductions (probiotics, enzymes, organic acids, alchohol, microbial biomass, polysaccharides, etc.). 4) Recovery of molecules (glycosaminoglycans, peptones, bioactives, gelatins, etc.) from food by-products (eyes, cartilages, heads, viscera, wastewaters, skeletons, etc.) based on flexible and optima strategies using a combination of biological, chemical and physical processes (Biorefinery).
