DBDL's research is focused on the development of tools and strategies for the automation and optimization of biomanufacturing processes. Biotechnology uses biological systems (whole living cells or parts derived from these) to catalyse reactions, converting feedstocks into products. It thereby creates the basis for products and services in a wide range of sectors. Biomanufacturing is the deployment of biotechnology in industrial scale processes designed to create products, such as fuels, chemicals, materials or ingredients for the agri-food, cosmetics, chemicals, pharmaceutical or energy industries. DBDL's tailored research solutions can help biotech companies, academic labs and biofoundries to discover novel enzymes for biocatalysis, strain optimization for fermentation processes, development of novel biosensors, and development of digital twins for the full biomanufacturing process.
