Service description
The rolling machine can carry out thickness reduction of metallic specimens of approximately maximum dimensions 29 x 100 x 180 mm3, from 29 mm to about 2 mm thick in a variable number of passes at ambient or elevated temperature that depend heavily on the material and its starting thermomechanical treatment. The initial ductility of the starting material gives a rough idea of the reduction that can be given to the material at room temperature without material bending or cracking. In general, it is difficult to make large reductions and it is usually necessary to raise the processing temperature. The high temperature processing modifies the microstructure of the material, altering the final mechanical properties. In fact, this is one of the most useful missions of rolling: to alter the microstructure and mechanical properties (even magnetic properties in some steels).
A set of high temperature (for small specimens) rolling rolls and another set for room temperature are available. However, changing the rolls requires several work hours of several operators simultaneously.
