MAMEDE: New bean variety with multiple resistance
MAMEDE is a new common bean variety (white dry bean type) that combines high commercial grain quality with outstanding multiple disease resistance and unusual versatility, as it can be used both for dry grain production and green pod consumption.
- Market need
-
Common bean production requires varieties that combine high commercial grain quality with genetic resistance to the main pathogens, reducing the use of plant protection products and increasing yield stability. Furthermore, the market demands plant varieties with multiple commercial uses.
- Proposed solution
-
A new common bean variety has been developed with excellent agronomic performance, disease resistance, and adaptation to Spanish growing conditions.
It exhibits a determinate and upright growth habit, a compact plant architecture, and high lodging resistance, facilitating crop management and improving crop stability. It produces large white seeds with excellent commercial appearance. It can be used both for dry bean production and for green pod consumption. It also incorporates genetic resistance to several of the major pathogens affecting common bean crops.
- Competitive advantages
-
- High yield stability.
- Excellent adaptation to Spanish growing conditions.
- High genetic resistance to diseases.
- Reduced risk of yield losses due to diseases.
- Large white beans with high culinary value.
- Suitable for commercialization both as green beans and as dry beans.
