Scientific collections preserved in the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales are the infrastructure reference for multidisciplinary research staff of the Centre, as well as national and international scientific community in the areas of biology and global change. Under certain conditions, the specimens can be provided, for scientific purposes and for a period of 6 months, renewable, professional researchers, trainees and amateurs. In the case of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, emeritus, retired staff, fee or attachment and amateurs, the request must be made through an authorized person to ensure the preservation and safety of specimens during all the time that life of the loan and be responsible for the return of the same in the agreed time. Type materials, figurative, referenced, and other sensitive can be provided under special conditions, provided individually and term loan will never exceed one month.
It begins on request to the technician responsible for the collection. In the case of the acceptance of an application, and before the departure of the specimens, the applicant must sign the document "Acceptance of loan conditions for research arthropod collection of MNCN": they are not allowed forwarding to third parties without the prior written consent of MNCN; no changes to the original tags allowed; They are not allowed to make modifications or treatments of any kind without prior permission; labels should not be modified or withdrawn, notes the borrower should not be permanently fixed, but preferably provided by means of new labels or other media on paper. Photographic reproductions of the material are permitted only after written approval of the direction of MNCN. Authorize shooting does not grant copyright. The Museum has to be mentioned in case of publication of illustrations.
The applicant must also sign the loan document collection, which collects detailed data of the pieces that come out this concept out of the stores. In case of international loans, all documents are drafted in English.
Collection staff is responsible for the location and preparation of requested specimens and photographed all the pieces.
Collection staff is responsible for processing the extensions requested by researchers and claim the loans not returned within the stipulated period. At the end of the loan, the internal administration of returning the pieces of the collection, checking their status after the return of the material to the collection or museum, and the return of the same is assumed to its location in the warehouse or exhibitions. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions for the loan may be grounds for refusing future requests.
In the case of the specimens included in the CITES appendices, will be applied the provisions of national law adopted in the resolutions adopted by the Conference of the Parties to CITES. In the case of the European Union, this is done through a common regulation that applies and develops the CITES Convention also fulfilling the objective of achieving harmonization throughout the EU territory. IMPORTANT: All applications whose result results in the improvement of the scientific quality of the collection, or those that by their nature cannot enter into competition with the private sector, are excepted from this benefit
