Literature and Science in Ancient Mesopotamia

Literature and Science in Ancient Mesopotamia

The research of the group "Literature and Science in Ancient Mesopotamia" lies within the field of ancient Near Eastern languages and cultures; we are both renowned Assyriologists specialised in the history, religion and society of the people that inhabited ancient Mesopotamia. Our research focuses on the study of cultural and historical phenomena, their description, analysis, and interpretation as manifest in the various Sumerian-Akkadian literary, scientific and historical genres.

Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics

Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics

We are a cohesive group of scientists, instrumentalists and industrial partners involved in major challenges in the fields of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. Our research activities include the analysis of large-scale galaxy clustering measurements, the production of accurate cosmological simulations and galaxy mock catalogs and the development of instrumentation and databases for Big-Data galaxy surveys. Our network’s expertise supplies a detailed interpretation of the survey results and provides new insights into the physics of the cosmos and the nature of dark energy.

Molecular Spectroscopy Group - Microwave

We are part of Physical Chemistry Department at University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and Biofisika Institute (CSIC – UPV/EHU). Our research focus on the accurate structural characterization of biomolecules and molecules of astrophysical interest and its molecular interactions by state-of-the-art spectroscopic techniques in the gas phase. Our research encompasses different methodologies ranging from the microwave spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy and computational modelling. The group has an extensive network of national and international collaborations.

Heterogeneous Catalysts for Selective Chemical Processes

Heterogeneous Catalysts for Selective Chemical Processes

The scientific interest of the research group consist in the synthesis and characterization of heterogeneous catalysts for their application in the production of high added value compounds and compounds of interest in the Fine Chemical industry. More specifically, the application of carbon nanomaterials, carbon nanotubes and graphene oxides and their derivatives, as catalysts or supports for active phases (metal or metal oxide nanoparticles, metal complexes), is investigated, emphasizing in their functionalization and in the study of the resulting properties.

Genomics of fruit trees and grapevine

The Genomics of fruit trees and grapevine research group began its activities in 2002 supporting three main lines of action in plant breeding of woody species: i) selection of fruit varieties and rootstocks adapted to the conditions of the Mediterranean area; ii) development of multidisciplinary techniques for its application in marked-assisted breeding; and iii) conservation of genetic resources in fruit tree species and grapevine. The activities carried out in the last years focuses on the following objectives to strengthen the research line.

Synthetic Methodology and New Building blocks

The Synthetic Methodology group, created at IQAC-CSIC in 2018, aims to developing state-of-the-art synthetic tools to reinforce and complement IQAC's ability to rapidly address societal challenges. The group is led by Dr. Aexandr Shafir, who after completing his doctorate and post-doctorate stages in the USA (Berkeley, MIT), developed his research career in Spain, first at the UAB (Barcelona), and then as Group Leader at ICIQ (Tarragona), prior to joining CSIC. The group aims to develop new classes of reactions and reagents to enable the formation of C-C and C-heteroatom bonds.
