Replication and Mitochondrial Plasticity

Replication and Mitochondrial Plasticity

The research group investigates 1) the molecular bases and treatment of rare diseases and 2) how oxidative Damage modulates DNA repair and replication. Our model organisms include yeast and human cell lines.

Molecular Mechanisms of the Biological Adaptation

Molecular Mechanisms of the Biological Adaptation

Molecular strategies and metabolic functions required for the adaptation of bacteria to extreme conditions, using metagenomic and metatranscriptomic approaches. Special interest in the rizosphere of plants from extreme environments. Multicellularity and social behaviour in Bacillus subtilis. Study of genetic material transfer in bacterial populations by extracellular DNA.

Innovation Studies

Innovation Studies

Our institute is organized as a single group, mainly because the main research themes we address are interdependent. The group studies the processes of knowledge generation and use, their contribution to innovation in different areas and oganizational settings, and the design and evaluation of policies addressing these themes. All academic and support staff are assigned to this group, and all the technical and administrative staff support it.

Exoplanets and stars

Exoplanets and stars

The coming years are called to revolutionize our understanding of planetary systems in the Universe. Major advances are expected from the deep scrutiny of the sites of star and planet formation with ALMA, from the discovery and characterization of exoplanets of all sizes and properties, and from investigation of the materials composing the most primitive bodies in the Solar System.

Laser Processing Research

Laser Processing Research

The ‘Laser Processing Research’ (LPR) group focuses its activity on the laser processing of functional nanostructured materials through the techniques Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation (MAPLE), Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), laser direct irradiation and Laser Direct Write (LDW) for energy storage and environmental applications. Current research lines: - Laser deposition of carbon-based hybrid nanocompounds. - Chemical transformation by direct irradiation of carbon-based thin films and nanostructures. The research group was created in 2010 and currently it is in the phase of

Electrochemistry and electroactive materials

Electrochemistry and electroactive materials

Synthesis of Electroactive materials and control of their properties and microstructure by electrochemical doping and electrodeposition in various electrode geometries. Aplications in Energy (and Bioelectrodes for functional electroestimulation and tissue repair in the central nervous system in the past). . The use of soft synthesis methods including electrochemical procedures of doping and crystallzation from precursors, allows to obtain new materials.
