PIF2025 - Altermagnets for spintronics - (PID2024-155387OB-I00)

We invite you to embark into an exciting PhD project at the frontier of quantum materials and spintronics. The project focuses on altermagnets, a recently discovered class of magnetic materials that combine the best features of antiferromagnets and ferromagnets — zero net magnetization with symmetry-protected spin splitting. These materials promise ultrafast, energy-efficient spin-based information technologies. During your PhD you will acquire multidisciplinary skills on thin film growth, microstructural characterization and physical properties of altermagnetic thin films and complex oxide heterostructures. At ICMAB, you will integrate in an international leading center for research on materials used in electronics, energy, and health. ICMAB promotes knowledge sharing and values international collaboration, education, inclusion, and diversity and it is well known for its strong doctoral training. Located at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) campus, it is near other research centers and has access to advanced scientific equipment and large facilities. You will join a team with a long expertise on complex oxide thin films offering you the opportunity to work with recognised specialists on spintronics, magnetism and microstructure and a well stablished network of national and international collaborators.
