Astrophysics, Particles and Cosmology
The research of our group deals, on one side, with the study of dark energy, together with the physics of the objects involved in the observations (supernovae), confronting different types of cosmological models with observation. On the other side, we also investigate various issues related to the physics of elementary particles, including antimatter, gravity and foundations of quantum mechanics.
The main part of our research consists of the exploration of dark energy, using theoretical and observational approaches, also aiming at a better understanding of the origin and physics of thermonuclear supernovae. These two objectives are closely related, since the observations of distant thermonuclear supernovae (Type Ia) is, up to now, the most powerful means to explore the possible cosmic evolution of dark energy.
