Oxygen content in organic samples

Range: O: 0.04-100% No standard available The determination of the organic oxygen content is carried out in a LECO TruSpec Micro-O analyser. The sample is dropped into a graphite crucible under He at 1300 °C. The pyrolysis gases are passed through a carbón black bed where all the oxygen-containing molecules are reacted to yield CO. An anhidrone bed es located at the outlet of the reactor in order to trap the scarce water molecules which might have escaped unreacted. The flue gases are then passed through a copper oxide bed where all the CO is oxydized to CO2, which is then quantified as such in an IR dectector. The oxygen content of the sample is 50% of the stoichiometric oxygen of the CO2 detected.
