Embedding the sample in a block

Benefit description

Tissue samples are received by the laboratory preloaded into histology cassettes by the client. Upon receipt, sample identification, integrity, and consistency with the accompanying documentation are verified prior to processing. The samples are then processed using an automated tissue processor. The tissue processing procedure comprises the sequential steps of fixation (when applicable), dehydration through graded alcohol solutions, clearing with a compatible intermediate clearing agent, and infiltration with molten paraffin or embedding resin, according to the processing modality requested by the client. Upon completion of tissue processing, the specimens are embedded in paraffin or resin blocks, resulting in solid blocks suitable for histological sectioning by microtomy.
