Adjustable cutting knife with protection for trimming hides for both tanning and taxidermy
Enhanced knife that enables customizable thinning of hides during the tanning process, offering both protection and adjustable thickness. It is simple to use, features no moving electrical parts, and is highly safe for the user.
- Market need
-
Animal hides differ significantly in thickness based on the animal species, considering not just the kind of animal and its average size, but also regarding the necessity for fat storage. At present, there exist only two varieties of knives available: a roughing knife, inappropriate for precise, final trimming because of the significant risk of cuts and harm to the hide. Another variety is a furrier's knife, featuring two blades with the edges angled at 90°. When these blades cease cutting, they require sharpening and the edge to be folded back, which is a rather intricate and delicate job. Similar to the roughing knife, the task relies on tactile feedback and is heavily influenced by the operator's expertise and proficiency, making it somewhat unsafe to manage.
- Proposed solution
-
The knife developed offers a premium, customizable cutting tool that ensures safety for the user and skin, necessitating no specialized blade care, and only needing standard sharpening. It works with any blades and cutting tools available in the market.
Its key characteristic is that, being easily adjustable, it relies less on the operator's skill, experience, and capability to achieve favorable outcomes. Considering the present advancements, the knife addresses and fulfills a significant void in the skill of skin trimming for both tanning and taxidermy.
- Competitive advantages
-
- Superficial cut of the hides with adjustable thickness.
- Reduces the thickness of the hides as needed.
- Total safety for the operator.
- Minimal maintenance, unlike its competitors on the market.
