Women and Science Committee Organization

On 30th September 2002, the Steering Committee of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in accordance with a favourable report from the Science Advisory Committee on the proposal of its president, Rolf Tarrach, approved the creation of the Women and Science Committee (CMYC).

The Committee was created with the aim of:

  • Advising the Presidency of the CSIC on issues related to the promotion of the beginning and subsequent career of women scientists in the institution.
  • Studying the possible causes that might difficult both the access and the career of women in the CSIC.
  • Proposing to the Presidency possible actions designed to promote the access and promotion of women in the CSIC according to the current laws in this specific field.
  • Analysing the existence of biases and deficiencies historically introduced within the science development due to the low presence of women in scientific institutions and in its governing bodies and proposing, in appropriate cases, corrective measures.
