Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems in the High Seas (ECOVAM)

Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems in the High Seas (ECOVAM)

The research group aims to generate solid scientific knowledge about the biodiversity and conservation status of Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) in the High Seas, including the analysis of overlaps, interactions, and impacts resulting from bottom fisheries and other human activities. Additionally, the goal is to integrate this knowledge into the advisory processes of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) and other relevant national and international bodies, in order to promote sustainable and evidence-based management.

Methods in Ecology and Assessment of Living Marine Resources

The evaluation of living marine resources is a necessity for society to guarantee the sustainability of these resources and maximize the social benefit of their exploitation. The evaluation process aims to quantify the consequences of different management alternatives. For this objective, it is necessary to have knowledge of the dynamics of the populations and ecosystems studied and how fishing activity affects these populations. This can be done, preferably, by developing mathematical models that incorporate biological and fisheries information.

Membranes nad Catalysis with Nanostructured Materials (MECANOS)

Membranes nad Catalysis with Nanostructured Materials (MECANOS)

Membranes and nanostructured materials: focuses on three main lines: (1) Synthesis and characterization of nanoporous materials: zeolites, titanosilicates, lamellar materials, ordered mesoporous silicas, graphene derivatives, MOF and COF, controlling their surface chemistry and textural properties. (2) Development of mixed membranes: dense and supported on flat and hollow fiber polymeric supports for molecular separations.

NOVEL RAS REGULATORS IN CANCER & HOMEOSTASIS

NOVEL RAS REGULATORS IN CANCER & HOMEOSTASIS

We use murine and cellular genetic models to characterize new signalling pathways and oncogenic functions that govern the onset and progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Mounting evidences suggest that membrane-bound RAS molecules segregate into multimers known as nanoclusters. These structures are regulated through protein–protein and protein–lipid interactions but most of the molecular details that govern the biology and function of such membrane clusters are still ignored.
