Archaeology and architecture of the city

The members of the Laboratory of Archaeology and Architecture of the City (LAAC),affiliated with the School of Arabic Studies(EEA), research the settlement, architecture, urban planning, and material culture of the Islamic world, extending it to the Late Antique and Early Medieval Western Mediterranean.Since 1986, they have carried out research and restoration projects in the Iberian Peninsula, the Maghreb, Sicily, and the Near East.Is formed by five OPIs researchers, two Ramón y Cajal fellows, and four PhD candidates, along with four OPIs technicians and two M3 technicians. They lead the Andal

Social History of Power Since the Middle Ages

Social History of Power Since the Middle Ages

The historical study of the interaction between society, gender, power, culture and heritage - with a special regard towards Galicia -, by different approaches, highlighting the participation of digital technologies and computational processes in a bidirectional analysis of the historical and humanistic knowledge. The investigations are centred mainly in three areas: the historical analysis of different structures of kinship and relations of power, by using genealogical reconstructions, prosopographical analysis, the study of the institutions of the Crown, their heritage and the edition of dip

Plant Biotechnology

Breeding of different crops, mainly cereals, but also brassicas, legumes and olive, for the development of new germplasm better adapted, higher value-added or new uses and increased knowledge of the genetic basis of traits of interest. This applies group techniques: traditional breeding, cytogenetics, gene mapping, transcriptomics, transgenesis and RNA interference among others.

Weed agroecology

Weed agroecology

My group focuses on understanding the ecological principles that underpin weed agroecology in order to develop integrated weed management strategies under global change scenarios that are both economically and ecologically sustainable. Current research interests are focused on: a) Development of models of population dynamics of weeds; b) Weed agroecology, with emphasis on biodiversity, ecosystem services/disevices and the impact of climate change and c) Transfer of results to the agricultural sector through the development of decision support systems. We use a variety of approaches, inc

Phytopathology of Sustainable Agricultural Systems

Phytopathology of Sustainable Agricultural Systems

Our aim is to increase the efficiency of agricultural systems in Mediterranean environments by using integrated management strategies of plant pathogens to avoid the environmental damages and economic losses that they cause. This aim is reached by developing environmentally-friendly management strategies that assure both the efficiency of the agricultural systems and the yields, quality and health of their products.

Etiology and Control of Crop Diseases

We are involved in several research lines focused on crop diseases caused by soil-borne pathogens, with emphasis on the study of: i) Biotechnology and molecular basis of plant-microbe interactions, both pathogenic and beneficial; ii) Genetic and pathogenic diversity of pathogen populations and development of molecular tools for in planta and in soil detection of pathogens; iii) Integrated management of diseases affecting crops, considering biocontrol agents, organic amendments and genetic resistanc; iv) early and presymptomatic disease detection by means of proximal sensing.

Gametic embyogenesis biology and applications

Gametic embyogenesis biology and applications

The activity of the group focuses on gametic embryogenesis as a tool for the production of doubled haploid plants (DH). During this process, the gametic cells change their developmental pathway initiating an embryogenic route, allowings the production of complete homozygous plants in a single generation. The introduction of DHs in plant breeding programs can accelerate the development of new plant varieties. The group studies the morphological, genetics and molecular mechanisms that determine gametic embryogenesis. Different approaches, including high throughput techniques, are performed.
