Proliferation and Differentiation of the Nervous System

The group STUDIES cellular and molecular mechanisms controlling the proliferative and differentiative potentials of the neural precursors in the developing central nervous system. Our GOAL is to understand the basic processes that sustain neurogenesis in the brain and, particularly in the neocortex, and the pathology underlying congenital brain growth defects (microcephaly and macrocephaly) and other developmental disorders such as intellectual disability and autism. We use the MOUSE as model system apply techniques that are common in cellular and molecular biology, OMICS (transcriptome, proteome and phosphoproteome) and advanced fluorescence microscopy. The IBMB Services and Platforms that are essential in our research are the “Histology Service” and the “Molecular Imaging Platform”. The group belongs to the Spanish network on rare diseases (CIBERER) and collaborates with groups doing basic and clinical research.
