Nanostructured and multicomponent polymeric systems- NANOMULPOL

The group research has recently focused on incorporating mesoporous silica in the multicomponent systems. Purpose for this inclusion is diverse: catalytic support, gas capturer, nucleating agent, mechanical reinforcement and to induce confinement of macrochains in its mesostructure. Our current interest at short and medium term consists of continuing to look into these aspects, exploring and exploiting the catalytic characteristics in degradation processes as well as to modify them to provide various specific functionalities in order to transfer these characteristics to different polymeric systems: (1) biobased and/or biodegradable polyesters for attempting to solve their deficiencies and enable their use in commodities applications; (2) electroactive polymers and dielectric materials to improve their dielectric constants for use in energy applications (3) circular polyolefins through chemical and mechanical recycling for enabling their reutilization and their greater sustainability.
