Multifunctional Optical Materials

The Multifunctional Optical Materials Group of the ICMS is devoted to the development of new photonic structures in which several functionalities are combined. Materials design, preparation, and characterization, as well as device integration, are all performed within the group to yield a full approach to the problems addressed and give rise to creative solutions. The group comprises a team of materials chemists and physicists that cover all different aspects involved, from the synthesis of nanomaterials to the simulation of their electro-optical performance and their integration in devices. Our group is expert in preparation of dielectrics and metals of all kinds integrated in photonic crystals, diffraction gratings, plasmonic structures, optically disordered materials... These are realized by combining solgel synthetic approaches with deposition techniques (such as dip and spin coating, CVD or screen printing), patterning (soft-lithography, nanoimprint) and evaporation.
