Mössbauer Spectroscopy and Surface Analysis

The Mössbauer Spectroscopy and Surface Analysis Group is devoted to research of thin and ultrathin films, surfaces and nanostructures. The group employs a remarkable variety of experimental approaches that include both the production of films and / or their surface modification by molecular beam epitaxy or magnetron sputtering and the characterization of their physicochemical properties by spectroscopic techniques (XPS, AES, Mössbauer), diffraction (LEED) and microscopy (STM, LEEM). An important aspect of the group is the use of singular techniques such as Mössbauer Spectroscopy and Low Energy Electron Microscopy. In both fields, the group is the leader at the national level. In LEEM, besides its well established collaborations mostly in the USA and with the Alba synchrotron, since 2017 it is the only group in Spain with a LEEM instrument devoted to electron imaging.
