Molecular Fluid Dynamics

Experimental group, pioneer and worldwide reference in the quantitative study of gas dynamics at molecular scale by Raman spectroscopy. The problems investigated so far includes micromapping (density and temperature mapping with resolution of micron) and kinetics of supersonic gas jets, shock waves, molecular clustering, inelastic collisions, and crystallization of liquid microjets (Welcome page news on CSIC web, June 2011). The group activity is comprised in the areas of knowledge of Molecular Physics, Physics of Fluids, Astrophysics, and Condensed Matter Physics, spanning a thermal range from 1 to 2000 K. Two instruments fully developed by the group are operative in the laboratory. The group have active collaborations with those of J. Campos (IFF-CSIC), M. Carvajal (Huelva U.), R. Grisenti (Frankfurt U.), T. Elizarova (RAS, Moscow), J. P. Toennies (Max-Planck, Göttingen), F. Thibault (Rennes U.), I. Graur (U. Provence), and J. Cernicharo (IFF-CSIC).
