Mineral processes, environment and habitability

Research in this department investigates natural and engineered mineral processes on the surfaces of Earth and other planetary bodies. Employing a combination of field studies, laboratory experiments, and computational modeling, our work integrates mineralogy, (bio)geochemistry, planetary science, and physical chemistry to elucidate the mechanisms governing mineral formation and their interactions with the surrounding environment.
