Integrative Biology
The Integrative Biology research group seeks to identify general biological principles that allow the development of predictive mechanistic models. The work strategy combines the development of theoretical models and computational tools with experiments and analysis of high-throughput data. Among systems of interest are microbial communities and pollinator and plant systems, around which an integrative framework is structured that spans the molecular, ecological and evolutionary scales, with an important emphasis on the role of interactions in the stability of natural and synthetic ecosystems. In the field of synthetic ecology, we are interested in projecting our knowledge in the design of stable microbial consortia, with the aim of developing biotechnological applications around the One Health concept, such as bioremediation, synthesis of biopolymers or development of probiotics.
