Electrochemical Devices Engineering and Fluid Dynamics Group

After several decades of research, fuel cells based on proton exchange membranes (PEMFCs) and redox flow batteries (BFRs) are at a stage in which their operating principles have already been fully demonstrated, but technological aspects still have significant deficiencies, which require further advances. To try to solve some of these problems, this research team explores the complex fluid dynamic processes taking place in both devices, through numerical simulations and experimental techniques. On the other hand, we also try to solve some technological problems such as the design and manufacture of bipolar plates, the optimization of the sealing system, the cooling system design and design and optimization of new automatic control systems to ensure such simultaneously the correct operation of the stack and deserve as a predictive tool against failure.
